How do I care for and maintain a necklace?

Daily Care and Maintenance:

Prevent Tarnish: Wipe your jewelry with a soft cloth after each use to remove oils and residues.

Wear Last, Take Off First: Put on necklaces after applying hairspray, perfume, and lotions, as chemicals can cause discoloration.

Avoid Moisture: Remove necklaces before showering, swimming in pools or salt water, or exercising to prevent damage to metals and stones.

Safe Storage: Store necklaces separately in a pouch or hung up to prevent tangling.

Inspect Regularly: Check for loose stones or weak clasps.

Cleaning Methods:

General Cleaning: Soak jewelry for 10–15 minutes in a mixture of warm water and mild soap, then gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Deep Cleaning/Tarnish: For silver or gold, you can use a polishing cloth. For deep cleaning, some use Windex or bring it to a professional jeweler.

Delicate Pieces: Use only a soft cloth for delicate gems like pearls, opal, or emeralds, which can be damaged by heat and chemicals.

MEET KARIN

Like all rewarding journeys, Karin Jamieson’s path to becoming an award-winning jewelry designer has included a detour or two.

After successful post-collegiate turns as a travel agent, and then as a financial advisor for a major investment firm, Karin decided to pursue her life-long interest in gemstones and enrolled in a course at the Gemological Institute of America.

Her passion and talent for working with rare stones was obvious, and she soon received an offer from Tiffany & Co. to take a position in sales and earn her GIA Graduate Gemologist®️ Certification.

Graduate Gemologist® Program (gia.edu). It was here that Karin began to build a roster of private clients for her own designs.
