SUNSTONE

Sunstones hold the warmth, radiance and illumination of the sun. Historically, they are known for their gradients of orange and red, but are now found in yellow, pink, green, blue-green and in colorless form. Karin exclusively uses sunstones mined in the United States. “I first started designing with sunstones in 18K yellow gold after meeting the gentlemen that own the Ponderosa Mine in Oregon” she says. “Unique to the sunstones of Oregon is the fact that the inclusions that cause aventurescence are native copper. This is also what we call the Schiller effect which is the metallic like sheen that sunstones exhibit.”
